Backcountry and Off Piste Skiing between Loetschental and Anniviers

Deep snow and Off Piste Adventures in a quiet part of the Valais. In the shadow of the Ski hubs of Zermatt and Verbier lie the charming valleys of Loetschental, Val d'Anniviers and Val d'Arolla, which have been largely unaffected by the crowds. They have a variety of small skiresorts with lifts up to 3000m a.s.l
Each of them features its own skiing highlight, as the Tellin in Lötschental, the Val Ignes in Arolla or the Orzival in Grimentz.
The breathtaking scenery of glaciated 4000 Meter peaks, a reliable record of snowpack throughout recent years and the stylish atmosphere - the ingredients for true Off piste jewels
The plan is to visit all of the three areas at least for one day and ski the some of the best Runs there. Whereas if the conditions are just perfect in one of the resorts, we might just spend a couple of days there. Short climbs 10 to 60min with skins on or bootpacking are not mandatory but will add a lot to the experience.
We'll be based in our established Hotel Edelweiss in Blatten in Loetschental throughout the week. It offers 3 star standard with twin rooms and typical cuisine of the Valais. The skibus stops 100m from downstreet to take us right to powderheaven. To access the Skiresorts of Grimentz and Arolla we'll have to drive for 60-80 min.

It pays off. The unbeatable advantage of the a fixed base and a lot of different resorts within driving distance is obvious: we'll always be able to find good snow , thus making the best of your ski holidays. And you'll get to know a lot of the area with tons of adventure packed in one intense week.

Itinerary

Day 1:: Arrival and meeting in our hotel. We check the equipment and adjust the test material. The mountain guide will give you an overview of the avalanche and weather situation.

Day 2-5: Depending on the weather and snow conditions we choose different areas each day. The options according to snow and weather conditions are discussed the evening before. We have two resorts in walking distance. Two more can be reached via a short bus ride.

Day 6: One more full day of skiing! At about 3 pm the trip ends and after refreshments we start our journey home. Let us know if you want to stay an additional night, we will be happy to organize it!

If you are keen to demo skis, we are happy to provide Freeride Skis from our partners Fritschi and Black Diamond.

We usually stay in a 3 stars hotel. We take care of the booking. Special wishes such as single room accommodation can be considered. Just let us know!

Prerequisites

You should be able to ski safely in steep off-piste terrain and in all types of snow (we'll hopefully ski deep powder, but also crusty snow can occur). The full potential of this area can only be tapped if we ascend with skins from the lift for a while. Therefore, you should be willing to skin for 1 hour uphill. Of course, we will not climb that much every day.

Getting There

The nearest Airports are Geneva, Bern or Zürich. From there frequent train connections are available to Sion in Valais. If possible, we'll pick you up at the train station. We discuss the details of transportation with you.

Accommodation & Food

We typically stay in a basic but well run local hotel of the 3 stars category. Double rooms are standard. If you prefer a single room, let us know. The accommodation is with half board including a rich breakfast buffet and a 4-course dinner with local food. During the day we'll have lunch in a restaurant at the skiresort.

Quite frankly our cooperating partners want to sell the gear they are providing us with. It is therefore clearly in our interest if you test gear on our trips. So why should we charge you for this?

Lend out gear is generally free of charge on all our trips. If you have your own equipment, but want to save weight on a challenging ski traverse, we will bring lightweight crampons for you. You are keen to test a wide freeride ski or the latest ice tools? No problem! Of course, we do not have multiple sizes or models in stock, but we are trying to help you with gear as much as we can.

Personal communication rather than follower and likes.

Lets face it: social media is a mere marketing tool for many businesses. To us this way of connecting with the audience is somewhat superficial. That's not our style. We prefer the direct contact to our clients - even beyond 'business'.

What does that mean for you? If you are planning a trip to the mountains on your own, get in touch, we are happy to recommend on a summit, region or provide information on the conditions. You need advice on gear? Need a second opinion on the avalanche situation? We are fostering a long term exchange, often on a very personal level, with many of our clients. We are taking the time, because its fun to chat or talk shop with like-minded people!

Why we do not show available places online.

Because you still wouldn't know if a trip is confirmed. Bookings can be cancelled after all. Besides, well, the displayed number of available places can be fake — we all know that from the flight search engines.

Don't panic if the minimum number of participants is not yet reached! We often try to directly address long term clients, bring together bookings for different dates or find alternatives. Maybe we are really keen on doing the trip ourselves and offer you a special deal. Anyway we are keeping you updated. You might tell us your deadline by which you have to know if the trip takes place or not.
